Painting by Sally Rosenbaum and Myra 'the week' . . .

What a beautiful painting by Sally Rosenbaum. Like many other artists she is truly as they say 'one of the hardest working people in the business'. Her paintings really tell a story. I would call her a modern day Cassatt with her 'women reading' series. Also, this was a pretty good week for me. I truly enjoyed discovering watercolor board and experimenting with watercolor and pastel. I received wonderful encouragement and enlightenment this week - especially from PM and MP (who turns out to also live in Texas). Now, I won't lie to you . . . I wish that I had done this painting by Sally Rosenbaum. Well, I always have a goal for the Spring and Summer. I was surprised by the sense of joy and satisfaction I felt in using pastel and watercolor. This summer my goal is to teach myself more about these mediums. I want to do beautiful paintings that tell a story. And, I want to follow MP's advice who said 'don't be afraid to 'attack the canvas' with bold, beautiful, color'. And I will . . . right after my prune juice vodka-tini and a nap . . . see you next week . .

In a pastel garden . . .

I heard someone screaming 'not another ballerina today' and it was me. So I thought I would do a little self portrait. This is me - if I were 20 years younger, 100 lbs lighter and had long brown hair. Otherwise it's me. (Pastel on heavy cardboard). PS This is an actual scene I saw one summer. I would like to do several versions of this composition with different figures and with flowers.

Comfort . . .

Someone mentioned on their blog that every once in a while artists need to come out of their 'comfort zone'. I am not very comfortable out of my comfort zone but here is a painting I did to remind me to do so.

Apple with personality?

Since I 'complained' that my ballerinas needed personality I thought that I would practice painting an apple to see if I could give it a little personality. Okay . . . I don't hate it . . .

Pastel Study

Unlike the other two pastels, I sprayed this one after I finished it. It gave it a little more grainy effect. I like this one - a little - but I wouldn't spray a pastel after on this particular cardboard again. Question: How would I ship a pastel if I ever sold one?

sometimes you've got to . . .

. . . call in all of your favors? direct traffic? get all your ducks in a row? be the pack leader? find out what everyone wants for lunch? ask if birds of a feather really do flock together? if the early bird gets the worm what does the late bird get? tell o' Pharaoh let my geeses go?

Sometimes you've just got to . . .

look at the 'big picture' . . .
stop and smell the roses along the way . . .
